Dan is a a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, is a Professional Member of the CCPA possessing a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), and is currently pursuing certification as an Emotionally Focused Therapist.

Dan operates out of the concept of shalom or salam. One of the ideas conveyed by shalom, or salam, is that everything is the way it should be. It is about a sense of being in balance, harmony, completeness, peace, safety and wholeness. The journey towards wholeness cannot be done in isolation, by oneself. Although it must include the inner peace that comes from healthy ways of being and relating to oneself, it requires that one develop healthy ways of relating to others and one’s environment. In wholeness there is no oppression; no isolation; no exploitation; no marginalization. One will be at peace with oneself, others and one’s environment.

Clients: Couples and individuals from age 16 and up.

Issues: Couples distress, psychological abuse, codependency, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, repressed emotions, spirituality and meaning of life.

Therapeutic approach: Dan uses an eclectic mix of psychotherapies including Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals, John Gottman’s approach, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Object Relations, and Family of Origin.

Basic therapeutic philosophy: People are fundamentally good. They do not wake up in the morning and decide to wreak havoc on their own life and that of the people they love. They do the best they can with what they have. Most people have learned maladaptive coping strategies and get stuck when those strategies no longer provide relief.
